Hunter snags Sanders GardenWorld

Scottish horticulture mogul Sir Tom Hunter, who owns Wyevale, has made a further addition to his garden centre empire after missing out on Dobbies recently.

A spokesperson for Sanders GardenWorld in Brent Knoll, Somerset, confirmed last week that the business, which has won Garden Centre of the Year a number of times, is under new ownership.

The garden centre, which recently celebrated its sixth year, will become one of Wyevale’s ‘garden centres of excellence’, and will be the 116th in the chain.

The four original stakeholders, brother and sister Kerry and Michelle Michael and brothers Chris and Mike Sanders, will no longer be involved, although the current management team will continue to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the business.

Sanders’ managing director Peter Burks said: “This is a good move for Sanders GardenWorld as it will mean we can enhance both our visual appearance and retail offering, which will benefit our customers tremendously. I am very pleased with the outcome.

“We also have the opportunity to become a flagship store for the Wyevale family both regionally and nationally.

“I would like to assure all of our customers that it’s ‘business as usual’.”
