A cloud hangs over the mushroom industry after Dutch-owned multinational Heveco was reportedly placed into the hands of Dutch receivers at the end of last week.
FPJ contacted three separate Heveco offices, and the administrator, but no-one has so far been prepared to comment.
Heveco is one of the giants of the European mushroom industry. Its UK arm, in Thakeham, West Sussex, is the sole supplier of mushrooms to Asda. It also supplies Sainsbury’s, and its disappearance would leave a huge hole in an industry that has been in turmoil for several years.
It is thought that several large mushroom companies have considered a move for their rival, but as yet, none has taken up the challenge.
