Researchers in Australia have discovered that eating a bunch of grapes could be even healthier than originally thought.
Researchers within the Department of Primary Industries in Victoria say that eating fresh grapes can compare to drinking red wine in moderation in terms of heart disease prevention.
Tannins in wine are known for their antioxidants, but senior researcher Mark Downey says his team stumbled across similar qualities in grapes during a project.
“Quite surprisingly, we found that tannin levels in the skin of some table grapes were really high, much higher than we expected,” he said.
Red Emperor was found to have the highest level, and that was almost twofold what it was in some wine-making cultivars, added Downey.
