Hail falls in Valencia

Hail fell last week in parts of the Spanish region of Valencia causing damage to orange and easy-peeler trees. The hailstones caused defoliation and fruit to fall from the trees in some parts. The areas most affected were L'Horta and Picassent. Hail also fell in L'Eliana, San Antonio de Benagéber, Paterna Bétera and Ribarroja but was accompanied by large volumes of rainfall so growers are hoping damage will not prove so severe. It was a similar story in Montroy where salads and grape production was also affected. Agronomists from growers associations were still inspecting fields to assess the damage this week.
