A report into Guernsey's rose sector indicates that production is continuing to decline. John Bader, a successful rose grower and author of the report explained that virtually all the rose growers on the island now produce crops only on a seasonal basis. He added: 'With all the bushes having rested during the winter months, it was interesting to see how different pruning techniques, coupled with different temperature regimes could stagger island production.' Thanks to a weak euro, UK prices are seen as below the level necessary for a sustainable rose growing industry. Bader added that although the present way of rose growing looks set to continue, crop renewals will remain low.
