Guatemalan exporters’ association Agexport is working on a project to develop the country’s lime sendings beyond the traditional domestic market and the US.
“We are looking to support the sector with projects in the field and post harvest on good agricultural practices, integrated crop management, post-harvest handling and logistics,” Marta Castañón, of the fruit commission at Agexport, told freshinfo.
Limes are grown throughout most of Guatemala but particularly in the warmest areas of Costa Sur, Petén and eastern Guatemala. The project also involves researchers from the universities of Valle and San Carlos investigating pest control.
