John Shropshire from G’s Marketing and secretary of state Caroline Spelman are among the speakers lined up for a strong 2011 Oxford Farming Conference.

The event, which heralds the beginning of the working year, takes place on 4-6 January 2011.

Among the wide-ranging line-up of speakers, Jim McCarthy - who farms in Ireland, Australia and the US - will discuss the pros and cons of farming with and without subsidies.

Jeffrey Currie, head of Commodities Research at Goldman Sachs will provide thoughts on prospects for global agricultural commodities and what’s driving them and how the emerging markets may develop in the future.

Elsewhere there will be discussion on food and water security and a look at research into the value and viability of UK farming.
