Leading fruit and vegetable provider The Greenery's UK-dedicated warehouse in Maasland, the Netherlands, was named as one of the safest warehouses in the Netherlands at the Logistica trade fair, held recently in Utrecht.
The jury visited the warehouse several times and praised its flexibility and ability to respond quickly to the needs of The Greenery's customers. The jury also said that the facility is remarkably clean and tidy, which helps towards a high level of safety.
The visits were designed to see how safety aspects were a part of daily operations in the warehouse and how closely health and safety rules were followed.
Martin Brown, managing director of Greenery UK, said: "As one of Europe's major producers and importers of fresh fruit, vegetables and mushrooms we have a very busy logistics operation and produce must be delivered to customers as smoothly as possible.
“Therefore it is vital that staff at our warehouses are flexible, well-organised and safe. For example, one of the ways in which we ensure safety throughout the warehouse is to colour-code areas that can only be used by pedestrians or forklifts.”
The Greenery has an average annual turnover of approximately €1.9 billion.
