Angus Soft Fruits' Good Natured Fruit range of strawberries and raspberries have been short -listed for both the ‘Best Green Packaging’ category in the 2008 Green Awards and the ‘Fresh Produce’ category of 2008 Quality Food Awards.
Taking place in London on the November 12, the Green Awards will recognise creativity in sustainability. Good Natured Fruit’s short-listing showcases the brand’s achievement in providing punnets that significantly reduce waste for consumers, as well as being made from wholly sustainable components.
The punnet, designed by marketing and customer communications firm Adare, is made from UK-sourced cardboard mill off-cuts and enables customers to view fruit through a clear film window in a printed recycled board sleeve. Despite looking like plastic, the window is manufactured from ethically sourced wood pulp. In addition to being recoverable through the cardboard recycling waste stream, the film is biodegradable and compostable. The inks and varnish are vegetable based, helping reduce the pack’s environmental impact. The entire pack can be recycled.
The Quality Food Awards, also in London, on the November 27, aim to recognise quality food and drinks, which also offer value for money.
The unique GNF growing method has been shortlisted for monitoring pest and disease levels in the crop, using natural predators such as ladybirds to control pests like greenfly, and keeping plants healthy with a balanced nutritional diet - thereby eliminating the need to use artificial pesticides.
