Five separate Ghanaian export organisations exhibited at Fruit Logistica under the overall co-ordination of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE).

The pavilion featured the first showing of a new Ghana Fresh Produce Directory, detailing exporters and export statistics.

The leading Ghanaian export item is pineapples, around 70,000 tonnes of which are sold annually. Some way behind are papayas and mangos, and the total value of all exports of fruit and vegetables is around $70 million.

New items aimed at the European market and produced in Ghana were sliced pineapple and mixed fruit snacks in plastic trays complete with a plastic fork to enable them to be eaten on the move. “We are looking for new importers at the fair and also for ways to improve our logistics,” said Stephen Mintah, general manager of Sea-Freight Pineapple Exporters of Ghana (Speg).
