Garlic and ginger specialist Pan United is seeing increased interest in its products in the UK market, according to sales manager Syd Edwards.

The London-based firm markets garlic, ginger, Fuji apples and pomelos from a range of sources, including China, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil and most recently India, and trades under the Apollo brand.

A Dutch office was set up five years ago to break into the European market, and Edwards now believes the firm is at the top of the tree when it comes to garlic and ginger. “Last year we imported nearly 1,000 containers of product. The UK and other European countries now consider our lines as staple fare - like potatoes used to be. There is a constant supply of our lines, and we are always ahead of the game because we sell stored product.

“There are plenty of plans in the pipeline in 2008 - we are looking for new programmes and new lines,” added Edwards.
