Fyffes is to extend its work at the company’s new ripening facility in Coventry to encompass melons, following initial success at the site.
The tropical fruit supplier opened the facility last year to ripen bananas and pineapples and has enjoyed a positive early experience in the Midlands.
Fyffes UK brand manager Paul Barrett told freshinfo: “The pineapples already go through Coventry and we are assessing the situation with melons. The construction that has been involved there is state-of-the-art and we are very pleased with it.”
On the year ahead, Barrett said the company would “look at areas we can expand worldwide if the opportunities became available”, but said the company had no plans to grow the business through acquisitions, preferring to carefully study shopper habits and react to them.
