Multi-national fruit supplier Fyffes has bought a pineapple plantation in Panama in a deal worth $8 million (£5.2m).

The 450-hectare plantation in Central America has been purchased from Agroindustries Golden West with the aim of producing around half of its pineapples next year in conjunction with its farms in Costa Rica.

In a statement, Fyffes said the deal includes existing debt and deferred consideration payments.
