FTA wants more changes to London lorry ban

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has welcomed the decriminalisation of the London Lorry Ban, but says it could create further issues.

The FTA has expressed concern that the decriminalisation could lead to an increase in the number of penalty charges notices being issued.

In its response to the Association of London Government (ALG) consultation on the levels of penalty, the FTA urged the ALG to set fines as low as possible.

Sarah Watkins, FTA regional policy manager for London, said: “Our preferred option would be to scrap the lorry ban and have a more modern approach to meeting the delivery requirements of London. In the meantime the decriminalisation of the London Lorry Ban has been welcomed by FTA and its members. However, decriminalisation could result in an upsurge in penalty charge notices being issued. The FTA will closely monitor the effects of the change particularly if they follow the example of the penalty charge regime for parking tickets.”
