This year's Fruity Friday, which takes place on May 14, has received a huge response from fresh-produce companies interested in the event and work of the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK).
Wholesaler AJ Edwards has offered to sponsor the production of the bookmark competition, where schoolchildren around the country are invited to design their own bookmark using cartoon-style fruit characters. similar to Star Fruit Wars (pictured).
In a bid to raise funds for cancer prevention, the company is asking for a donation of 50p to enter this competition. To date more than 1,000 schools have expressed an interest in taking part throughout the UK. AJ Edwards has also said it will distribute WCRF UK's Fruity schools packs and its children's newsletter.
WCRF UK has come up with a host of initiatives for the day. The organisation has suggested ideas such as a fruit-themed raffle or a fruity fancy-dress day.
