Del Monte used Fruit Logistica to unveil a new range of fruit snacking products.

The company has developed a range of snacks made of pulped fruit, including apples, blackcurrants and strawberries.

Del Monte said the products aimed at children were designed to replace sweets and chocolates.

Axel Wulfken, general manager of Del Monte, said: “They are made entirely without sugar. This fruit pulp will provide the same sort of taste experience as sweets. I think this is a very interesting market.”

He said marketing strategists are still at work, designing a suitable packaging concept for the product.

In the meantime, Del Monte said it will soon be introducing bite-sized fruit pieces which will be displayed in chilled compartments at supermarket checkouts, to compete with chocolate bars and chewing gum.
