Freshconex took place alongside Fruit Logistica at Messe Berlin

The Freshconex section of Fruit Logistica enjoyed a successful second year focusing on the fresh produce convenience sector and hosting more than 7,000 trade visitors from five continents.

The number of attendees rose from 5,500 in 2009, with 71 of the industry's leading companies from 15 different nations bolstering the Freshconex offer this year.

The Freshconex 2010 Business Forum presented concentrated information on the latest trends in fresh convenience products. Each day, internationally recognised experts reported on the current developments with a focus on the following themes: "New technologies for fresh produce convenience", "Innovations in marketing for fresh produce convenience" and "Improved logistics and distribution for fresh produce convenience".

The business forum was organised by Eurofruit Magazine and the United Fresh Produce Association.

More than 82 per cent of the exhibitors said they expected satisfactory to very good post-trade fair business. Some 80 per cent said they would recommend Freshconex to colleagues or business associates. An equal number of exhibitors said they planned to be back for next year’s event while 94 per cent of exhibitors reported positive business results.

Matthias Maisel, food packaging specialist at Multivac, said: "Freshconex is the most important fresh produce industry platform where we can test market our new processing machines. This year we have had a large number of very promising contacts."

Pavel Stobba, sales manager at Fructofresh, said: "The German market is very important for our high-quality fruit salads and mixes - particularly because of the close proximity. This makes attendance at Freshconex a must. Here we are able to maintain existing contacts and establish new ones."
