Budgens: an in-store fresh produce display

Budgens has projected its pick and mix tomato sales will double this summer with sales of over 20,000 cases.

Budgens' retailers are enjoying increased sales since introducing a new meal solution approach, using seasonal display tables to reinvigorate fresh produce in stores.

Kevin Whalley, owner of Budgens Chalfont comments: “This new category development approach has revitalised our seasonal table. We sold over 200 bunches of asparagus a week, which is unheard of in our store.”

Kenton Burchell, GB trading director, Musgrave Retail Partners added: “We know the quality of our tomatoes is perfect for the upcoming summer celebrations.”

The food retailer plans to increase the number of UK stores with fresh produce displays from 60 to 140.

Burchell added: "Getting the right fresh range in stores is crucial to meeting the expectations of shoppers and I believe our pick and mix tomatoes exceed these expectations."

Budgens’ range of pick and mix tomatoes includes loose cherry vine, loose cocktail vine and loose baby plum, all retailing at £5.50/kg.
