The Freight Best Practice programme has published a new free guide entitled: Telematics for Efficient Road Freight Operations, which examines in depth the most up-to-date telematic technology within the transport industry. The freight Best Practice programme is funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) and managed by Faber Maunsell Ltd to promote operational efficiency within freight operations in England.

Effective use of the right system can lead to significant improvements in fleet security, productivity and efficiency leading in turn to increased profitability. The new guide helps the transport professional choose the right IT and telecommunication system for their company in a step-by-step manner. Offering detailed information on different types of system and suppliers, this guide presents practical advice on how to implement telematic technology across all sectors and sizes of the freight industry.

The six key product areas are summarized within the guide, in the following categories: telematics for vehicle and driver data, paperless manifest and proof-of-delivery systems, vehicle and trailer and asset tracking systems, satellite navigation systems, traffic information systems, and safety and security systems.

The Telematics for Efficient Road Freight Operations guide is completely free of charge, as are all Freight Best Practice publications, and can be obtained by visiting www.freightbestpractice.org.uk.
