The updated factory

Fourayes, the UK’s largest grower and supplier of Bramley apples and processed fruit fillings, has completed its new storage and despatch building at the Fourayes Farm near Sittingbourne, Kent.

Three new loading bays and chilled storage have replaced a single bay and ambient store, which will now allow Fourayes to deal with a higher turnover of deliveries and keep apples at a consistent temperature of 5°C - even during the warmer summer months.

Phil Acock, Fourayes managing director, said: “I am delighted with the results of the new extension. The re-designed factory not only looks better but is more practical and allows us to meet all the needs of our customers more efficiently.

“We have chosen a structure that is supported by a steel frame around the outside of the building. This is a particularly beneficial design, as it means that all the internal walls are clear, with minimal columns allowing for maximum space and food safe finishes inside.

“We have had an exciting year with regards to improvements at Fourayes, with the factory extension complete and the opening of our new training suite. We also have a lot in store for 2009, including the second phase of the extension, the expansion of staff facilities and the activities surrounding the 200th year of the Bramley apple.”
