The Timber Packaging and Pallet Federation (Timcon) has released a statement highlighting the importance of a continuous supply of wooden pallets and packaging amid the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
The organisation highlighted the fact that there had been a surge in sales of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and said that supermarkets and other retailers were running short of many crucial items as people stock up.
'The Government needs to be aware of the critical importance of a continuous supply of wooden pallets and packaging to ensure FMCG supply chains keep pace with essential consumer demand,' Timcon stated.
According to the Federation, the requirement is that the Government supports pallet and packaging manufacturers, pallet pools, reconditioned pallet businesses, and the logistics industry; while also ensuring that UK sawmilling operations are able to continue providing timber to various operations.
'This is an unprecedented situation and we will be working with the industry and with the government to ensure these businesses can carry on operating to ensure continuity of supply of these essential products.'
