Florist wins skills council award

Lantra, the UK Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based sector, has awarded the Land-based Learner of the Year “Life-long Learner 2007” title to florist Julie Amies-Carter.

Lantra teamed up with Welsh Assembly Government, the Farmers Union of Wales, National Farmers’ Union Cymru and Farming Connect to manage the awards, which recognise learners of all ages who are developing their careers and businesses in the Welsh land-based sector.

Amies-Carter is one of three learners who have realised the power of training and scooped awards at this year’s Land-based Learner of the Year Ceremony, at the Winter Fair in Builth Wells, Powys.

Amies-Carter owns and runs a floristry business called Expressions in her hometown of Aberystwyth, Wales. She has gained valuable commercial experience as well as a variety of floristry techniques in both Australia and the US. Not a stranger to training, Amies-Carter has an NVQ 2 in Floristry, as well as a HND in Floristry, and has recently gained the highest floristry qualification available in the UK, the NDSF.
