Florette is launching a new variety of landcress named Peppercress.

The leaf, exclusive to Florette, is described as “sharper and more peppery” than other varieties and has a more tender, “less stalky” texture, according to the company.

It will go on sale in May as part of a new Florette mixed salad bag called Peppery Crispy, priced at £1.74.

The new product launch is one of two developments aimed at breathing new life into two segments of the prepared salad category.

Based on its research into shopper attitudes towards factors such as enjoyment, wastage, convenience, health and value, parent company Soléco has decided to diversify existing Florette ranges by launching new signature products it hopes will help the salad brand unlock new shopper segments and drive frequency of purchase.

In addition to Peppery Crispy, a range of salad bags with dressing kits, named Florette Best Dressed Salads, has been designed to target consumers looking for something a bit more special to break up a midweek dinner.

Each 140g ‘fridge fit-friendly’ block bottom bag of mixed-leaf salads comes with a specially designed dressing and a complementary topping, such as a fresh mix of pea shoots, green Romaine and baby red Batavia, with a pea and mint dressing, and sea salt and black pepper croutons. Florette Best Dressed Salads will be on shelf in May, priced at £1.79.
