Florette is set to acquire Bakkavor’s ready-to-eat salad, fruit and vegetable business in the foodservice and retail sectors in France and Spain.

The French salad specialist’s parent company Agrial announced this week that negotiations have been ongoing for several months that will also see Florette take over four production sites in Macon, Saone et Loire, Torreilles/Pyrenees Orientales and Saint Pol de Leon/Finistere in France, and Torre Pacheco/Murcia in Spain.

Agrial said the acquisition would allow Florette to expand its operations in France and Spain into new commercial areas, particularly foodservice, and develop new products such as snacking solutions. It would also bring new opportunities for members of the Agrial co-operative.

“The Cinquieme Saison (Macon and Saint Pol de Leon), Crudi (Torreilles) and Sogesol (Torre Pacheco) companies acquired from Bakkavor enjoy an excellent reputation and already have close links with Florette suppliers,” the company said in a statement. “Florette is delighted to welcome all the employees of Bakkavor France and Spain, and look forward to benefiting from their expertise whilst giving them access to Florette’s innovation and development capacity.”

The deal is expected to be finalised in early 2013 once competition authorities in France and Spain have given it the green light.
