Tastiest Tomato competition judges fruit show 2013

Flavourfresh Salads scooped the top three places in the eighth Tastiest Tomato Competition, held at the National Fruit show in Kent this week.

Grower Andy Roe took home the David Stapley Cup for first prize with the cherry variety Sweet Rosso. David Barker won second and third place with cherry variety Sweet Green and plum variety Lipso respectively.

Wight Salads Group topped the Beef category, with variety Tomimaru Muchoo, while Cornerways Nursery’s Temptation beat off competition in the classic category. Flavourfresh Salads’ Lipso and Sweet Rosso cleaned up in the cocktail and cherry and baby plum categories.

The event was sponsored by Marks and Spencer and organised by the Tomato Growers’ Association.

Judges were Catherine Langrish from the NFU, Andrew Tinsley of the HDC, horticulturalist June Wilkins and Waitrose’s David Northcroft.
