Five-for-four on produce at Tesco

Tesco is to offer five pre-packed fresh produce lines for the price of four as part of a two-week health promotion.

The health event will involve every Tesco store in the UK to encourage customers to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Hundreds of promotions will run across healthy products all over the store from fresh produce, through to grocery and healthcare lines.

Jonathon Church, Tesco spokesperson, said: “We know that health is high on our customers agenda an that it why it is high on ours too.

“It can be hard work staying healthy, eating well without spending a fortune and trying to stay fit. That’s why we’re doing all we can to make it a little easier to be healthier.

“This is our biggest ever ‘health event’, enabling us to communicate the positive steps that we are taking around nutritional labelling, salt and fat reduction, the removal of hydrogenated fat, as well as ways we are helping customers to lead an active lifestyle.”

A media campaign will run alongside Tesco’s in-store events.

Tesco launched nutritional signposts in April 2005. They now feature on more that 2,000 products and will be on all 7,000 own-brand lines by 2007.

The labels are already changing what customers buy, with lower fat ready meals outselling higher fat alternatives by more than 7 per cent.

Similar result were found for salt, with reduced salt ready meals outselling higher salt products by 10 per cent.

Earlier this year Tesco also became the first supermarket to give customers a ‘Kitchen Cupboard Guarantee’ on its entire range of ready meals, which means they will only contain ingredients found at home.
