Marks & Spencer was due to welcome the first Jersey Royal potatoes of the season into selected stores today. Grown under glass on the island and packed and distributed for M&S by Manor Fresh, the first sendings are slightly behind recent averages this year due to cool temperatures in December and January. William Church, commercial manager at The Jersey Royal Company, said: “After a cold couple of months that slowed down the growth of the products, we are delighted to have finally started lifting the potatoes. We hope to build on last year and our fingers are crossed for kinder weather than that experienced over the past few years.”
