The first-ever frozen Tenderstem has launched at Iceland after almost 10 years in development, FPJ can exclusively reveal.
Supplied by frozen produce specialist and Tenderstem licensee TSA International, the new Kenyan-grown product will be available in 270g packs for £1.75 with each stem frozen individually within hours of picking.
Chief marketing officer at Coregeo Michelle Evans said: “Frozen Tenderstem has been several years in the making, so we’re thrilled that the team at TSA International has finally cracked the code and can produce a product that meets the exacting standards we set ourselves.
“We’re hoping that this new innovation will make Tenderstem even more accessible to consumers, encouraging them to try something new.”
Sales of Tenderstem are currently up 15 per cent on last year, Coregeo said, with the new frozen format expected to grow this further by making the brand accessible to more people.
TSA International general manager Sarah Jackson said: “We’ve seen great success with fresh Tenderstem over the years and we knew that there was a demand for this versatile vegetable to be offered to consumers frozen.
“We’ve taken our time developing the product, making sure that the sweet flavour and tender texture that makes Tenderstem so unique is captured perfectly when cooked from frozen.”
