The one-day event, held in East Malling, Kent in conjunction with Andersons Farm Business consultants last week, was designed to give fruit growers an understanding of how financial accounts are drawn up and how best to use them in managing modern farming enterprises.

Participants came from all sections of the fruit industry, including growers, owners and farm managers.

Derbyshire soft fruit grower Robert Busby, who attended the day, said: 'The course lifted, in simple terms, the fog and mystery surrounding financial accounts. I now have knowledge of some really useful financial reports to help me run my business.' The master of The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, Hugh Kelsey, joined delegates at lunch and confirmed the organisation's continued support for such courses.

Those interested in participating in the next course on February 20, 2002 should contact Lionel French on 01985 850682.
