A troop of 50 firefighters are battling a large fire at one of Scotland’s largest supermarket vegetable suppliers.

A fire broke out at Kettle Produce's vegetable processing plant at Freuchie in the north-east of Fife early on Friday morning.

Nine fire crews and a support unit rushed to the scene at around 6.30am this morning.

No-one is believed to have been injured by the fire at the 270,000sqft plant and a police spokesperson told freshinfo the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Kettle Produce employs more than 800 people at two plants in the area and is one of the leading suppliers of fruit and vegetables to UK supermarkets.

It currently grow more than 6,000 hectares of crops across the UK and Europe, producing more than 50,000 tonnes of fresh produce including root vegetables, salads and green vegetables each year.
