Carlos Ortiz-Pintor, the managing director of fresh produce importer Fesa UK, has died aged 49.

He had worked at Fesa since May 1986, following the company’s inception in 1985, and had been instrumental in helping to build Fesa into the company it is today.

Family and friends were accompanied by representatives from across the industry at his funeral on 11 August following his death from cancer. Donations may be made in Carlos’s memory to the children’s charity, Barnardos, which are being co-ordinated by Chris Sargeant at Fesa UK in Spalding.

The son of Fesa’s chairman, Jose Ortiz-Carrillo, Carlos inherited his father’s passion for the fresh produce industry, having been introduced to it at a very early age.

The directors of Fesa, together with its staff, extended their “deepest sympathy” to Carlos’s wife, Esperanza, his two sons and daughter and his extended family.

The company said in a statement: “The high regard and esteem with which he was held was demonstrated by the messages of sympathy received from customers, suppliers, acquaintances, as well as current and former employees across the globe. Carlos used his strong personality, vision and wide knowledge of all aspects of the industry to mould and develop Fesa into a thriving business.

“He was respected for his passion and drive throughout the industry and his tragic loss will be felt by the fresh produce sector as a whole.”
