Spalding-based supermarket supplier Empire World Trade has announced plans to support a university student looking to start a career in the food industry.

The company will next year offer one prospective student a scholarship to study at Harper Adams University College - a leading college specialising in the rural and land-based industries.

The successful student will receive an annual sum of £2,000 for years one, two and four of their chosen course, and will get to spend their sandwich placement working at EWT.

They will also offered a position at the company for a minimum of a year following successful graduation, with EWT annually paying a proportion of the their tuition fees for each year the graduate remains in the firm’s employment.

Harper Adams’s principal, Professor Wynne Jones, said: “We strongly feel the way forward for Harper Adams’ partnership with commerce is to secure suitable students for individual company needs, by providing a scholarship.

“By participating in the scholarship scheme we believe Empire World Trade can significantly benefit by securing an asset for their business and by grooming the student, have them ready to deliver immediate results to the company on graduation.
