Enza to increase NZ Jazz exports

New Zealand-based marketer Enza says it is preparing to export a larger volume of Jazz-branded apples from the country this coming season, following what has been described as a positive Northern Hemisphere campaign for Enza varieties grown in the US and Europe.

According to a spokesperson, the group's exports of Jazz to Europe will increase to around 1.2m cartons for 2011 on the back of a record New Zealand export crop of around 2m cartons or 36,000 tonnes, reports Fruitnet.com.

New Zealand’s Ambassador to Germany, Peter Rider, is due to unveil Enza's new flagship stand at Fruit Logistica on the event's opening day, promoting the anticipated start of the New Zealand apple selling season in Europe.

Enza general manager Snow Hardy said he was expecting a good crop out of New Zealand this year that will again lead the market in taste, appearance and flavour.

He also revealed that Enza's stand at Fruit Logistica this year would be twice as big as in 2011.

"Our stand this year has doubled in size to cope with the level of interest that we have seen at this show in previous years," Mr Hardy said. "It’s a major marketing platform for our apple varieties in particular, in an exciting year for their export growth."

He added: "Fruit Logistica is the hub of the international produce trade and is a key part of our global marketing programme each year to promote Enza's varieties.

"We operate at the premium end of global markets and the design of the stand reflects and promotes our New Zealand heritage where our apple varieties have been developed and are grown."

Enza will also be promoting its other recently introduced variety, Envy, which is poised to go on sale for the first time in European supermarkets in 2011.

The large, rich red, sweet apple was developed in New Zealand and according to the company is already a hit in Asia and North America.

"An exciting new characteristic of Envy is that the flesh remains fresh and white longer than other apples after it is cut, which opens up a new range of uses particularly in restaurants and fresh food products," said the spokesperson.

Enza will also promote its range of kiwifruit, including the exclusive ENZARed variety, with which it plans to expand the global kiwifruit category and provide new opportunities for growers, retailers and consumers.
