Philip Emanuel has stepped down as chairman of New Covent Garden's tenants' association, after 13-and-a-half years in the post. The decision was given to the committee at its agm last week, when Jason Tanner and Gary Marshall took on the roles of joint vice chairman, for the immediate future.
Emanuel said: "I have enjoyed every minute of my time in office, and relished the opportunity to work with the people that matter to help this market through some difficult times. I am no longer actively working in the market, however, and for that reason only it would have been very difficult to continue to give 100 per cent commitment to being chairman of the tenants' association." Emanuel is now working for The Poupart Group, further developing its flourishing non-supermarket business.
"The market is now in a good position for younger people to take over and in the next five years it could be facing an awful lot of changes. It is only right that the market is moved forward by the younger members of the association and I wish them a lot of luck and success in that in the future," said Emanuel.
