The first Dutch Kanzi apples of the season were harvested by actress Lieke van Lexmond, ahead of what is expected to be a higher-volume season across Europe this year.
The predicted harvest of Kanzi across Europe will amount to 11,000 tonnes this season.
Kanzi is a cross between Braeburn and Gala, with a sweet-sour taste and a red colour.
Leonard Kampschöer, chief executive of Fruitmasters Holland, said: “We are very proud of the success of Kanzi, a success which Kanzi deserves. Not only is Kanzi a very beautiful apple, its taste is also very unique.”
