Double joy for Overall Trader of the Year

Fresh Direct has been named Re:fresh Tesco Overall Produce Trader of the Year and National Foodservice Supplier of the Year at the Re:fresh awards at the London Marriott on Thursday, for its dedication to providing top-quality fresh produce to caterers across the UK.

Fresh Direct strives to supply its customers with products that are fit for the purpose they were ordered for, at competitive prices and delivered on time. The team, operating from two main warehouses named Innovation and Inspiration in Bicester, as well as outlets in London and Manchester, is passionate about achieving this each and every day.

A five-year strategy for the business was unveiled to employees in February, which will see a company restructure to facilitate growth.

The firm is continually searching for new ideas to boost the level of service for its customers. Nigel Harris has stepped down as managing director and has taken on a new role as chief executive, so that the board can formulate the strategy while he focuses on acquisitions for the Fresh Direct Local brand and other opportunities to grow the company. Gourmet at Fresh Direct, which has moved from London to its in-house position at the Bicester depot, has a team of eight full-time chefs - headed up by TV foodie Martin Levy - and has shown significant growth, focusing on the premium end of the business.

The Re:fresh judges said: “The exceptionally high quality of their entry, along with clear commitment and determination to driving the business forward, make Fresh Direct the deserved winner of the Overall Produce Trader Award.”
