German supplier Don Limón is targeting a major increase in business with the UK.
The company currently sells around 20 containers of predominantly sweet potatoes into the UK, but believes there is potential to increase that to 100 by 2020.
According to the company’s Andreas Schindler, who was speaking at last week’s London Produce Show, there is opportunity in both retail and wholesale through a combination of branded and private label. 'We've not been doing much in the UK, but we are starting to develop it,' he said. 'The sweet potato market has the biggest potential for us. UK retailers are more professional than elsewhere - they understand what they are talking about.'
Don Limón is also pushing its sustainability credentials through a number of projects, including on renewable energy in Mexico and water in India. It also also taking part in a number of public-private partnership projects to help educate people in poor areas of the world in how to grow their own food.
