A voluntary recall of selected Dole Hearts Delight salads has been issued by Dole Fresh Vegetables following an E. coli alert.
The division of the Dole Food Company Inc has recalled product with a best if used by date of September 19, and a production code of A24924A or A24924B, sold in the US and Canada.
The action was taken after a sample from a random screening in a Canada store was found to contain E. coli.
No other Dole salad products are involved.
US consumers have been warned that if they show any symptoms of E. coli poisoning, which include stomach cramps and diarrhea, within three to five days of consuming any of the specified products, they should seek medical attention.
To date, Dole has received no reports that anyone has become sick from eating these products.
Eric Schwartz, president of Dole Fresh Vegetables, said: "Our overriding concern is for consumer safety. We are working closely with the US Food and Drug Administration, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and several US state health departments."
