Spanish fruit exports dropped by 3.3 million tonnes, or 13 per cent, between January and August this year compared to the year-earlier period, according to new figures from grower-exporter association Fepex.

The citrus sector was particularly affected, with orange volumes falling by 17.5 per cent to 922,592t, mandarins down 32 per cent to 533,226t and lemons by 45 per cent to 195,904t.

Overall fruit and veg exports fell by 3.48 per cent, totalling 6.1mt.

However, stonefruit volumes increased by 11 per cent, according to Fepex, to 523,772t, compared to the year-earlier period.

Veg exports also rose during the eight-month period, up 11.5 per cent to 2.8mt.
