Vegetable Harvesting Systems (VHS) has sold its first Deman’s specialist-harvesting machine for Brussels sprouts to Merseyside farming business, James Heyes and Sons. Delivered in time for the harvesting season, the machine is the first UK sale for Belgian Deman.

James Heyes and Sons operates a 1300-acre mixed farm in Rainford growing Brussels sprouts and potatoes, as well as generating its own compost under the Environment Agency’s green waste recycling scheme.

“We chose the Deman machine because it has a good reputation for quality and reliability across Europe and we were pleased to hear that it’s now available in the UK,” said director James Heyes. “It is more robust - particularly the cutting head and as a result we felt it offered better value for money.”

Working as distributors in the UK and Ireland for Deman, VHS and Deman have developed a strong marketing and after sales package. “We are very optimistic about future sales and now aim to develop its reputation in the UK and Ireland,” said Andy Wilson, sales manager at VHS.
