A brand-new name in the crop cover market was revealed this week, with the launch of Crop Solutions Ltd.
The firm aims to provide a high level of expertise and advice to both organic and conventional growers, helping them choose the best crop covers to suit their needs.
Ian Campbell, who is heading up the business, has been involved in the fresh produce trade for more than 18 years, starting out by growing and packing swedes in the Scottish borders near St Boswells, before becoming managing director of Wondermesh Ltd and, more recently, sales manager for Stewarts of Tayside.
He told FPJ that his experience and close connection to farming has given him a clear understanding of the challenges facing growers today.
He said: “Having recently worked very closely with a number of major UK supermarket chains, I’m only too aware of the high standards and expectations that they demand from their suppliers.
“It is an extremely competitive market out there, where the ability to supply the highest quality produce is virtually a given by most supermarket buyers, but now they are also becoming increasingly focused on improved growing techniques, packaging, and the overall environmental impact of their supply base.”
Crop Solutions will initially be involved in supplying insect netting to conventional and organic growers.
