Watercress producers will hold a retail competition to find Britain’s best watercress product.

The competition - to be held at the annual Watercress Festival in Alresford, Hampshire, to celebrate National Watercress Week (19 - 26 May 2013) - is open to all products sold in a supermarket, farm shop or convenience store that contain watercress as the primary ingredient, excluding salad bags. During the festival there will be a variety of awards to give out, including a £2000 cash prize for the winner of The Great British Watercress Cook Off. Previous lucky winners have gone on to sell their Watercress Pizzas in Pizza Express branches.

“By creating the new retail category in the Watercress Food Awards we want to commend producers and retailers who are using this great tasting, historic salad leaf and encourage others to do the same,' said Charles Barter, of The Watercress Alliance.

He added: 'We want to highlight the versatility of this peppery superfood to the industry and show that it’s not just great in soups and salads but that it can be used in a host of delicious dishes.”

To enter the competition, simply email or post a description of your product along with the ingredients, and where it can be bought to jessica.archard@mustardcommunications.co.uk or Mustard Communications, 6th Floor Regal House, 70 London Road, Twickenham, TW1 3QS.
