Some 31kg of cocaine have been found hidden among a shipment of bananas at Rungis fresh produce wholesale market in Paris.
The bananas had been shipped from Colombia via Rotterdam. It is the second find of its kind this year and follows a haul of almost 100kg uncovered by police in February.
“What happens is that for some reason or another, traffickers are prevented from recovering the drugs as planned at the port of Rotterdam and they end up being concealed among fruit and vegetables,” a police source explained.
