The Cob Nob is exclusive to Morrisons

Greyfriars, the UK vegetable grower and marketer, has launched an innovative, disposable corn cob eating utensil - The Cob Nob - to encourage shoppers at Morrisons to view corn on the cob as a healthy and convenient complete meal solution.

The Cob Nob has been launched in the run up to the peak selling period for the product and the disposable skewer is being added exclusively to all Morrisons packs from the beginning of this month.

Non-slip and with an off-centre pin, the utensil prevents the cob rotating when eaten. To increase user-friendliness, easy-to-follow cooking instructions are printed on the back of the label.

The launch coincides with trials by Greyfriars to assess the viability of growing sweetcorn in north Yorkshire, for Morrisons. Greyfriars md John Smith said: “We found that concerns over messy eating and the thought of searching the cutlery drawer for the correct utensil were putting a lot of people off buying sweetcorn. The Cob Nob provides a convenient meal solution and we are confident that corn on the cob will become more popular with people looking to add variety to their five daily portions of fruit and vegetables.”

Greyfriars, a £12 million company, was the 2004 Re:fresh Packer of the Year.
