Chile increases sendings to EU

The first four months of the 2004-05 season saw Chilean fresh fruit exports to Europe climb by 50 per cent to 23,070 tonnes year-on-year, according to the Chilean Exporters Association (Asoex).

Although, this period is not indicative of a major trend, as it includes none of the higher volume lines shipped later in the Chilean season, it is said the strength of the euro against the dollar is attracting more fruit into Europe.

The US takes the vast majority of early Chilean fruit, however; exports to the US also increased in the period, however, by 6.5 per cent to 221,000t.
