Celebrity chip connoisseur Keith Chegwin and the British Potato Council’s (BPC) Chip Inspector have launched the search for the UK’s best chips.

The duo are appealing to consumers to help them in their mission and nominate their favourite chips, whether they get them from a posh gastro pub, restaurant, takeaway or mobile van.

The outlet that receives the most votes will receive the prestigious National Golden Chip Award.

Cheggers and the BPC Chip Inspector will be hitting the road, touring the country, tasting and testing to reveal the Chip Inspector’s Choice, for regional chip-excellence.

Contenders must not only face Chegwin’s tough taste test, but they will also have to pass the Chip Inspector’s examination for prize winning crispiness, colour and fluffiness.

Cheggers said: “Come on, it is time to stand up and show your love for the nation’s tastiest dish - skinny, chunky, curly - I love ‘em all. I’m hungry to hear about your prize fries so get voting - everyone can chip in!”

The search forms part of the 17th annual National Chip Week, from February 11-17, which aims to raise awareness about one of the nation’s treasures.

Nominations can be made at www.lovechipc.co.uk. The vote closes on February 17.
