Two new fact sheets designed to empower farmers to manage the challenges and opportunities of climate change have been launched by Farming Futures.

The advice has been put together by a coalition of agricultural and sustainability organisations which include Forum for the Future, the National Farmers’ Union, the Country, Land and Business Association (CLA), DEFRA and a number of agricultural and horticultural levy boards.

The fact sheets offer clear and unbiased information on farm carbon and energy efficiency for farmers and land managers, with links to other useful resources and sources of information.

Claire Wyatt of Farming Futures said: “There are so many different terms and phrases to do with climate change out there for farmers to contend with. There is also a tremendous amount of advice and information. What Farming Futures does is to pull the best information together into one place. The new fact sheets explain what farm carbon accounting and energy efficiency are, and how both can benefit farming businesses and the environment at the same time.”

CLA president Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, who has already conducted a carbon audit of his farm which can be seen as part of a Farming Futures video case study, said: “You can’t do much to reduce agriculture’s impact on climate change without measurement. Carbon accounting and energy efficiency are great ways for farmers and land managers to identify their emissions and find ways to reduce them. Farming Futures is full of ideas that will really make a difference without reducing output.”
