The California Tree Fruit Agreement is promoting late season peaches from the Golden State in the UK this autumn as European supplies wane.
Although the harvest started slightly later than usual on March 26 due to below average early spring temperatures, peak volumes were reached a month later and picking will continue until the end of the month with fruit available on the UK market until early November. A spokeswoman for CTFA told freshinfo: “The national bumper peach crop presented competition in the market place. However California is the only state still producing peaches and movement has increased. Every peach growing region in the US had a bumper peach crop except California, which had an adequate but not heavy crop set.”
