Leading a consortium the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) and Greek company Harvest Commodities Ltd will hold a one-day Policy Conference called Farmer Marketing: Opportunities and Challenges, with support from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

The conference will take place in Budapest, Hungary on July 7, and will present and discuss the current market challenges and opportunities for farmers in Europe. The event will cover market diversification, effective techniques for branding and promotion, and establishment of market linkages, as well as marketing issues related to the environment.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear presentations from key speakers from across Europe, as well as develop ideas and actions for further development, particularly related to the potential for improved vocational training in contemporary marketing approaches and skills development.

The SAC is delivering the vocational training in agri-marketing for farmers, wholesale and retail managers project, funded by the EU Leonardo da Vinci Programme.

The conference will be followed by a two-day FAO workshop entitled ‘Helping farmers respond to changing markets in South-East Europe’ for selected invitees. Dr Paul Kirby, head of SAC International and Mr David Lamb, head of food marketing at the SAC will be facilitators at the workshop.
