Brighten and Re:fresh your outlook

Richard Brighten, president of the Fresh Produce Consortium, has encouraged the entire industry to attend the new Re:fresh Conference and Awards, to be held at the Marriott in Grosvenor Square, London, on May 6.

The brand new event for the entire UK supply chain is being run jointly by Fresh Produce Journal publisher Lockwood Press, Highbury-Nexus, publisher of Grower and the FPC. It has already attracted a high-powered programme of speakers and panel participants, including the UK’s leading retailer Tesco, the world’s biggest retailer and foodservice providers Wal-Mart and Sodexho, the UK’s largest wholesale company Redbridge, which is also a major supplier to the multiple and catering sectors, as well as a grower and breeder in its own right, and Bayer CropScience, an arm of the multinational chemical giant Bayer. (Full details of the programme are published in Grower and Fresh Produce Journal each week, or are available on request from info@fpj.co.uk).

An awards ceremony will be held at the event’s gala dinner, on the same evening, and the entries are beginning to come in, in time for the March 26 deadline. (Full details of the categories and criteria are available on request from info@fpj.co.uk).

Brighten said: “In an era when joint ventures and collaboration can result in a more powerful effect, the FPC is pleased to have found two such like-minded partners, Lockwood Press and Highbury-Nexus. I advise you not to miss this event.

“Under a brilliant new marketing logo, a series of international experts will deal with major issues that are most influencing our industries. This will be followed by an awards dinner, where the nominees will be drawn from the ranks of the industry and where the accolades will be placed on those who have distinguished themselves most in the fresh produce sector.

“I must add that this event is not to be confused with Fresh, which is more of a European event, planned and executed by [European trade association body] Freshfel and Market Intelligence. Re:fresh will focus on the UK industry and the name will be used as a label for other joint projects agreed by the FPC and its partners.”
